Meet the Voices Behind the Chocolate

We’ve all met Ms. Brown by now, the newest M&M candy mascot to join the group and we know that her voice is provided by the actress, singer and former Miss America, Vanessa Williams. However, Ms. Brown isn’t the only chocolate candy with a famous voice coming out of their shell. If you’ve ever watched an M&M’s commercial and thought that the voice sounded familiar, check out this list to finally meet the voices behind the spokes candies.

When Red was originally introduced to the world alongside his best buddy Yellow, he was voiced by actor and comedian Jon Lovitz. In recent years, this M&M candy has been portrayed by voice actor Billy West, who provides the voices of several famous cartoon characters. In addition to Red, West also voiced Fry from “Futurama,” Stimpy from “Ren and Stimpy” and the Honey Nut Cheerios Honeybee mascot.

When M&M candies first introduced the Red and Yellow characters, Yellow was voiced by actor John Goodman. Since then, Yellow has been played exclusively by actor J.K. Simmons. In addition to appearing on TV shows like “Oz” and “Law and Order,” Simmons may be known best for his role as Spider-Man’s boss J. Jonah Jameson in the “Spider-Man” movies.

When the color blue replaced tan as the sixth M&M color, they rolled out a campaign introducing Blue to the rest of the gang. The late great Phil Hartman of “Saturday Night Live” fame provided the original voice of the blue M&M candy. After the death of Phil Hartman, the role has been played by actor Robb Pruitt.  Pruitt has had a number of walk-on TV roles and has provided voices for the video games “Darkened Skye” and “Saints Row: The Third.”

Neurotic Orange came onto the scene as the spokesperson for Crunchy M&Ms. Despite the fact that he’s now switched over to representing Pretzel M&Ms, his voice has always come courtesy of stand-up comedian Eric Kirchberger. Kirchberger has been featured on Comedy Central’s “Premium Blend” as well as the comedy site Funny or Die.

Green, the first female M&M spokescandy has had the same voice actress since her debut. Accomplished voice actress Cree Summer provides the sultry voice of Green. Summer has played a number of roles over the years including Penny in “Inspector Gadget,” Elmyra from “Tiny Toon Adventures,” Foxxy Love from “Drawn Together” and Susie from “Rugrats.” However, Summer’s breakout role was in front of the camera as Freddie on the sitcom “A Different World.”
